HSE Library: ebooks: Request ProQuest ebooks

This guide will outline the various ebooks that HSE staff have access to and where to access them.

N.B. The ability to request ebooks is also available for HSE Library staff.

To access books from ProQuest Ebook Central, click here and specify your HSE region from the drop down list. To request ebooks for purchase, you will need to sign in via OpenAthens. If you don't have an account you can register for OpenAthens here. Either browse for content or leave the search screen blank and hit the search/return option. This will retrieve all available titles. “Available” indicates books that are purchased in perpetuity and “Available on request” indicates books that may be accessed by submitting a request.

Complete and submit the online form. Please include your name, an e-mail address and a brief message outlining the reason(s) for requesting the title. This will assist in deciding the type of user licence that is purchased.

Acceptance/Rejection of book requests is based on the following criteria:

  • Title must be of relevance and beneficial to multiple disciplines
  • If the title is available in our print collection
  • Currency of title
  • Cost

Please expect a response with a decision within 5 working days.

Please Note : it is not our policy to purchase or obtain textbooks included on Masters/Diploma third level reading lists unless they adhere to the criteria set out in the Collection Development Policy.
