Accessing eLibrary Resources

A guide on how to access the eLibrary resources provided by Health Library Ireland remotely.

Introduction

Since the emergence of COVID-19, HSE Libraries have closed and Library staff are now focusing on providing essential research services. 

Health Library Ireland is committed to enabling access to resources remotely or on site. This guide shows the multi-disciplinary resources we provide and explains how to access them.

Submit Covid-19 evidence summary request 

Health Library Ireland dedicated COVID-19 evidence summary service is available to Healthcare staff at the front line or on National clinical programmes from who need evidence summaries to inform practice in managing COVID-19. Click the banner to submit a request to the team.     

BMJ Best Practice

BMJ Best Practice is a patient-centred clinical decision support tool, underpinned by expert opinion and the latest clinical evidence.

Grouped around 32 clinical specialties, BMJ Best Practice provides epidemiology, diagnosis, management and prognosis. It has a co-morbidities feature, patient information leaflets and procedural videos.

BMJ Best Practice is designed for use in the clinical setting and is available for use by all medical professionals in Ireland.

TIP: BMJ Best Practice is available as an app - download it now.

Once you have accessed the BMJ Best Practice website, click ‘Create account‘ for a personal account or ‘Log in‘ if you already have one. You will need your ‘personal account’ details to access the app.

Access your Apple or Google Play store and search for ‘BMJ Best Practice’. Select the app and when prompted, use your BMJ Best Practice ‘personal account’ details to sign in and download the content.

Article requests

Please use the Journal Finder function to check if a journal is available through one of the library subscriptions (you will need your Athens Account).

Please submit journal article requests by email to hselibrary@hse.ie 

Please note response times vary.

If you have urgent evidence requirements related to COVID-19 please submit via the research request service.

Finding open access articles

To check for freely accessible articles when browsing online, you can use one of these two browser plugins.

Borrowing and returning books

We do not charge late fees, and no restrictions will be applied for late returned items during the period the library sites are closed. You can return items using the book return boxes outside the libraries or when your library site re-opens. If you receive an automatic email notification about books you have on loan during this please ignore
